CSK Team Preview: Analysis
Three-time champions 2010, 2011 and 2018 respectively, Chennai would like to defend their IPL title this season as well. Despite many people complaining about their ageing squad, the squad is full of experience led by Skipper Dhoni. M.S Dhoni, often nicknamed ‘Thala’ is a major icon of the team. Surely they will miss out of the experience of Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh. But the Chennai team has enough backups to compensate for their loss.
Spin bowling department looks pretty solid for the Chennai team. Despite losing out on ‘Bhajji’, Chennai would look to capitalize upon services of Imran Tahir. Piyush Chawla is also being added as a backup to Tahir. Ravindra Jadeja is the key player for Chennai as he delivers best on all departments viz. Batting, Bowling and Fielding.
Jadeja has been the key player for Chennai over the years and he would like to perform well this season too. Mitchell Santner would be his likely foreign counterpart who could replace him.
In pace bowling department as well, there has been a good mix-up between Indian pace bowlers and Foreign pace bowlers. Dhoni has been utilizing Indian pacers Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur and Karn Sharma very well.
Lungi Ngidi, another South African pacer who would be crucial in CSK’s title defence. Dwane Bravo has always been delivering for CSK and he is expected to deceive batsman with varieties of deliveries this season as well.
With acquisition of Aussie pacer Josh Hazelwood and England’s youngster Sam Curran , Chennai team looks brute in Pace Attack.
Top-order looks stable for Chennai despite Suresh Raina missing out on this season’s IPL. Ambati Rayadu, Kedar Jadhav and Murali Vijay are the Indian batsmen who would like to play the role Raina has been playing over the years for Chennai. Shane Watson in the top order would be the major boost. He has the experience and what it takes to get through the powerplay overs.
M.S Dhoni is undoubtedly the ultimate man for this team. Captain cool has been skipper for the team since 2008 season. He will definitely perform for CSK in the middle order as we expect. Apart from him, Proteas player Faf du Plesis would be player to watch out for.
Sam Curran, Dwane Bravo and Ravindra Jadeja would be the picks for lower middle order. In overall, we can see the batting depth in CSK squad.
