The first match of the T20I series between England and Pakistan in Old Trafford has ended in no result.

Before rain stopped the play, England were 131/6. Spinners performed exceptionally well as Imad Wasim completed his 4 overs giving only 31 runs and taking 2 wickets at the economy rate of 7.75. Similarly, Leggie Shadab Khan gave away 33 runs and took 2 wickets off his 4 overs.

England’s Tom Banton played an explosive innings. In his innings of 71 runs off 42 balls, he hit 4 fours and 5 sixes at the strike rate of almost 170. His maiden 50 in this format was favoured by Iftikar Ahmed, who dropped Banton’s catch when he had scored only 5. Apart from him, only David Malan crossed the score of 20. Banton’s innings was only major highlights of the game apart from rain, which has been the major player in the entire Pakistan’s tour.

Pakistan had a upper hand before the rain halted the play. The visitors bowled aggressively. Apart from spinners, pacers Shaheen Shah Afridi and Mohammad Amir bowled ferociously. Although not taking any wickets, they had really kept England batsman on their Knees. Economy rate of bowlers was relatively better today compared to what it used to be in previous series against England in their home conditions. This factor could be a positive thing for Pakistan in upcoming matches.

Pakistan is playing their second match against England tomorrow in the same venue.
