England vs Australia 1st ODI 2020: Australia has begun their journey on World Cup Super League with a win against England in the 1st match of England vs Australia ODI series. Glenn Maxwell and Mitchell Marsh delivered with the bat in the first innings while their bowlers wrapped up the game for visitors. In spite of Sam Billings maiden international hundred, England fails to march all the way to victory.

After winning the toss and Australia deciding to bat first, the visitors did not have the start they expected. Warner went on early after being clean bowled by Archer. Soon after his departure, Aaron Finch returned to Pavillion as well. In the absence of Steve Smith, Stoinis and Marcus Labuschagne were batting at No. 3 and 4 respectively. Despite their efforts to make a huge partnership, Australia was failing to do so.

It was until Maxwell and Marsh came into the crease. The duo had a century stand between them and they extended Australia’s innings. From 123-5, Australia were 249/6 when Maxwell got out. Mitchell Marsh scored 73 runs off 100 balls. His innings included 6 boundaries. While his counterpart was bit more aggressive as Maxwell scored 77 off just 59 balls. His fiery innings included 4 fours and equal amount of sixes.

When England came out to bat, their opener Jason Roy got out early. Hazelwood grabbed an epic one-handed catch in his own bowling. Joe Root, batting at No. 3 for England went for only a run. Skipper Morgan along with opener Bairstow tried to accelerate England’s run chase before Morgan too got out for 23. When Buttler got out for 1, England was at the miserable situation of 57/4.

After the early one-by-one departure of English players, Bairstow and Sam Billings tried to re-initiate the innings. With an excess of 100+ partnership between them, Sam Billings made his maiden ODI century. Jonny Bairstow made 84 runs before partnership broke out. His innings included 4 fours and an equal number of sixes. While Sam Billings made 118 runs off 110 balls. His innings included 14 fours and 2 sixes.

Josh Hazelwood was the main spotlight for Australia in the bowling department. His brilliant spell of 3/26 just kept England out of the game. In his 10 over spell, he kept 10 maiden. He gave just 26 runs and took 3 wickets. Economy rate of 2.60 is more than you ask for bowler in ODI. Leg spinner Zampa took 4 wickets. In his 10 over spell, he gave away 55 runs.

Australia would be facing England on Sunday for second ODI. England would like to come back while Australia would like to continue their winning spell. After the T20 series loss for Aussies, they would have an eye in winning the ODI series against the world champions.
