In the close game at Southampton, the host kept their upper hands as they lead the 3 match T20I series 1-0. Despite COVID-19 situation, matches are being played under secured bio bubble environment.

In the Rose Bowl, Australia won the toss and decided to bowl first. Two wicketkeeper batsman, Josh Buttler and Jonny Bairstow came for opening. Explosive batsman Buttler made a flying start despite of losing his opening counterpart early. David Malan came to bat at No. 3 and played gem of an innings. He made 66 runs off 43 balls which included 5 fours and 3 sixes at strike rate of 153.

Apart from him and Josh Buttler, no other batsman settled in the pitch as Malan did not get the support of other partner as much as he should have got. Apart from them, Chris Jordan was only batsman who reached double figures. Aston Agar, Kane Richardson and Maxwell got 2 wickets each as Australia needed to chase 162 off their 20 overs.

Australia got a dream start as Warner-Finch saga showed up for Aussies time an again. The left-right duo unfortunately could not reach their 100 runs partnership being short just by 2 runs. After Finch got out on final ball of 10th over, Smith came to bat. He tried to settle but fell onto trap of leggie Rashid. Just as the condition of England, Australia could not capitalize onto the start they got. Apart from top 3, only Marcus Stoinis made a double figures. Archer and Rashid took 2 wickets each.

Australia at one point of a time were 98/0 at just shy of 11th over. It’s astonishing how they got into situation when they needed 15 runs off the final over while chasing just 163 runs. Aussies completely misplayed the game as England took their chance and won the game by margin of just 2 runs. After losing their final T20I against Pakistan, England have reinstated themselves and they hope to continue their good form ahead of 2nd T20I on Sunday.
