India wins the 4th and final Test match against Australia in Brisbane and has retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. This India vs Australia series has been labelled as one of the greatest series win by India by many critics. India won the 4th test at Gabba by 3 wickets.
The result was only possible when Wicket-keeper batsman Risabh Pant played a gem of an innings to get India through. Until the final session of the game, every possible outcome of the game as possible. It was only until when Pant along with debutant Washington Sundar took the initiative and started attacking Australian bowlers, India’s win in this India vs Australia Test series became evident.
India vs Australia-4th Test Summary:
In the first innings, Australia made 369 runs. Marnus Labushagne dominated the Indian bowling attack as he made 108 runs. The Aussie middle order too made a handy contribution as Steve Smith, Matthew Wade, Cameron Green all making a handy contribution to the score. Tailenders Mitchell Starc and Nathan Lyon also made handy contributions as they nade 20 and 24 respectively.
Natarajan and Washington Sundar, both making their debut in this test took 3 wickets respectively. Along with them, Shardul Thakur also took 3 wickets.
When India came to bat, Opener Shubman Gill went for a cheap score of 7 runs while Rohit Sharma made handy 44 runs with 6 boundaries. The Indian middle-order contributed modestly while lower order contributed handy runs.
The highlights of Indian innings were Washington Sundar and Shardul Thakur. They made 62 and 67 respectively. That was India’s highest 7th wicket partnership at GABBA in India vs Australia series. Josh Hazlewood claimed 5 wickets haul with a great economy of 2.31. While Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummings claimed 2 wickets. India made 336 runs in their 1st innings.
In Australian 2nd innings, Openers gave a solid start as Marcus Harris and David Warner made 38 and 48 respectively. Unfortunately, they could not capitalize on the start they got. Steve Smith got to 50 but could not convert it to big hundred. Little contribution from middle-order meant that Australia was restricted to 294 runs.
Mohammed Siraj was on fire as he took 5 wickets haul. Siraj displayed a great demonstration of fast bowling attack as he bowled with brilliant composure and great line and length. Shardul Thakur as well took 4 wickets. In absence of Bumrah, these two duos have taken the initiative of Indian fast bowling attack.
When India came to bat in their 2nd innings, Rohit Sharma went out for cheap while Shubman Gill made 91 runs. It was unfortunate that he missed out on his maiden Test hundred. Captain Ajinkya Rahane went out for cheap while Cheteshwar Pujara batted with great determination as he proved to be ‘The Wall’ for Aussie bowlers.
Rishabh Pant played a vital part in the win at GABBA as he made swashbuckling 89 runs. He showed great intend as he drained the Australian bowling attack. His innings included 9 boundaries and a six. See the full scorecard of the game.
India retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and India vs Australia test series after a great all-round performance in every aspect of the game. Their Australia tour ended on a high note as they win the Test series. Pat Cummings was declared man of the series as World’s No. 1 Test bowler had a really great series on his personal level.
