ICC World T20 is set to start in October this year and Virat Kohli might not be part of it. A total of 16 teams have already qualified for the event in Australia. India is one of the favourites to win this tournament despite some intense competition inside the team.
Virat Kohli, undoubtedly one of the greatest cricketer to ever play the game is struggling for the firm. It’s been almost four years since he has scored a century in any format. It’s astonishing fact for a player of his calibre.
During these four years, there have been several twists and turns inside the Indian team itself. Rohit Sharma has taken over the captaincy from Kohli. After the conclusion of the T20 World Cup 2021, Virat stepped down as a T20I captain which he had mentioned even before the start of the tournament.
However, his decision didn’t go well with the BCCI as president of BCCI Sourav Ganguly stated that there would be only one “white-ball” captain. Later Virat stepped down as Test captain as well after a long tussle with the Board.
Virat Kohli is rested in the ongoing series between India and West Indies. Since Rohit Sharma is also injured, Shikhar Dhawan has taken over the captaincy role for the series.
As India has the largest pool of players compared to any other country, finding a replacement player is not a hard task for them.
Should Virat Kohli Return To Domestic Cricket?
Great players like Rahul Dravid, and Sachin Tendulkar have also returned to play Ranji Trophy in order to gain from when they were out of form.
There is no doubt regarding the talent and skills that Kohli possesses. But, there are phases in one’s career when a player is out of touch and bad luck playing the role at the same time.
Virat Kohli has the potential to bang any world-class bowlers on any given day and I don’t think anyone could ever drop the player of his class. It’s more of his personal choice.
I think he should take a break for a while and return to domestic cricket in order to regain the form before returning to international cricket again.
