The news came as shock as reports came stating that Mr. IPL, Suresh Raina would not play this season of Indian Premier League. He has since returned to India from UAE.
The tournament was originally scheduled to commence on 29 March 2020 but due to COVID-19 pandemic, it was scheduled to start from 19 September 2020. Due to massive transmission rate in India, the tournament was moved to conduct in UAE.
Raina stated he would not be playing this season’s IPL due to personal reasons. Earlier this month, he along with MS Dhoni had announceed their retirement from International cricket.
Suresh Raina’s unavailability is obviously huge blow for the Chennai Super Kings but also a disappointment for fans as well as brand value of IPL. He is second highest run scorer in IPL only beyond Virat Kohli. He has scored 5368 runs in 165 matches.
Chennai Super Kings are having their troubles before the commencement of the tournament itself. Earlier, it was reported that at least 10 members from Chennai Super Kings camp has tested positive for COVID-19. This itself is a huge blow as quarantine period is extended further.
It is yet to see how Chennai Super Kings will deal with this situation. Raina has played his entirety of his carrear for Super Kings except 2 seasons with Gujrat Lions in 2016 and 2017 when Chennai Super Kings were banned for spot fixing scandal.
