Nepali Batsman Top ODI innings: Nepal gained ODI status on 15 March 2018 after they finished 8th in 2018 World Cup Qualifiers. Nepal has traditionally been a bowling team. Despite of this, there are some notable batting performance by Nepali Batsman in this format of the game.

Despite being an ODI member for just over 2 years, we could see some brilliant innings by Nepali batsman. This article points out some of the brilliant knocks.

5) Sarad Vesawkar 55 against Oman:

Although Sarad’s knock came in losing cause for Nepal, it came in a very tough situation. Nepal was playing their first match in ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2. Fortunately, it was first ODI in home soil for Nepal as well. After Paras and Gyanendra went early on in the innings, Sarad and Dipendra Singh Airee had the responsibility to build up the innings. Despite the situation, Sarad batted bravely and made hard-fought 55 runs off 108 balls. In spite of his slow innings which included 5 boundaries, he set up the innings which, unfortunately, middle and lower-order batsman did not capitalize.

4) Binod Bhandari 59 against USA:

Binod Bhandari is often said to be ‘The Bradman’ of TU. Although this something that fans fuss and gossip about. But, his records do not lie regarding his incredible form in this ground. Despite being criticized for not performing good enough in International level, he has proved his worth in many instances. Nepal was playing USA in their second match of ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2. Nepal batting first, came in a difficult situation. At one situation, they were 49/5. Binod and Kushal uplifted the Nepali innings. Binod made 59 runs off 79 balls. His innings included 6 fours and 1 six. Because of his contribution, Nepal eventually won the game by 35 runs.

3) Kushal Malla 50 against USA:

Kushal Malla, at the age of just 15 years old wrote his name in the history books through this innings. In spite of his age, he looked prolific and technically well built. In his debut game, he made 50 runs off 51 balls. His innings included 4 fours and 3 sixes. At the age of 15 years and 340 days, he became the youngest player to score a fifty in ODI cricket. Doing so, he broke the record of his fellow Nepali youngster Rohit Kumar Poudel. Rohit was 16 years 146 days when he made half-century against UAE. Kushal was the spotlight of the game who along with Binod Bhandari put Nepal to a respectable total of 190. Nepal eventually won the game because of his invaluable contribution.

2) Sompal Kami 61 against Netherlands:

Let’s look back to Nepal’s first-ever ODI win. We could find many subtle memories of that match which is still fresh among the mind and hearts of Nepali fans. Many of us would remember Paras Khadka dislodging the stumps in the 49.6th ball of the game. That eventually made Nepal winners in a cutthroat game where the difference between two teams was only a run. Besides the main climax of the game, Sompal Kami was the man who played a key role for Nepal leading onto the victory. He scored 61 runs off 46 balls. His innings included 5 fours and 3 sixes. Nepal was at the score of 135/6 when Sompal came to bat. He partnered with other lower other batsmen to place Nepal at a respectable score of 216.

Being a All rounder who bats at a lower middle order, Sompal has been playing a pivotial role in Nepal’s journey in ODI cricket.

1) Paras Khadka 115 against U.A.E:

Paras Khadka is often abbreviated as ‘God of Nepali cricket’. Rightly so, the former skipper has been serving Nepali Cricket for almost 2 decades now. On his journey with Nepali team, he has captained Nepal through Division 5 to all the way to ODI status. Between which Nepal played World T20 in 2014 under his captaincy. All-rounder Paras is equally effective with both bowl and bat in his hand. He is also Nepal’s first centurion in both ODI and T20I cricket.

On our list as well, Paras ranks on top as he does in many record books. Coming to bat at No. 3, Paras played an explosive inning of 115 off 109 balls. His innings included 15 fours and a six. His strike rate of 105 was equally impressive as well. Thanks to his impeccable innings, Nepal chased down UAE’s target of 255 within 45 overs.
